"Dr. No" is a 1962 spy film directed by Terence Young, marking the debut of the James Bond film series. Starring Sean Connery, Ursula Andress, Joseph Wiseman, and Jack Lord, it was based on Ian Fleming's 1958 novel of the same name. Produced by Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli, it initiated a successful partnership that lasted until 1975. The story follows James Bond as he investigates the disappearance of a fellow agent in Jamaica, leading him to the villainous Dr. Julius No, who plans to sabotage an American space launch.

Despite being the first Bond novel adapted to film, "Dr. No" was actually the sixth book in Fleming's series. The film introduced elements like the criminal organization SPECTRE, which became integral to future Bond films despite not appearing in the novels until later. Made on a modest budget, "Dr. No" was a financial hit and, while initially receiving mixed reviews, has since become regarded as one of the series' finest entries. It set the standard for Bond films with its iconic gun barrel opening, stylized title sequences by Maurice Binder, and the introduction of the famous Bond theme music. The film's elaborate visual style, pioneered by production designer Ken Adam, became a defining feature of the series.
