How can I tell if a Steiff bear is genuine?

A genuine Steiff bear carries the Button in Ear and an attached ear tag. Tag colours and button styles vary by collection, so buying from an authorised retailer provides additional reassurance.

How to make sure you are buying a genuine Steiff Bear?

To ensure you are buying a genuine Steiff Bear, always choose a trusted dealer such as Bel Air, which has over 25 years of experience with fast, tracked UK delivery. The tag in the ear confirms authenticity, while Limited Editions also include a Certificate of Authenticity for added reassurance.

How is a Steiff Mohair Bear created and made?

Steiff Mohair Bears are either Limited Editions or Classics, made from high-quality mohair with careful stitching, craftsmanship, hand-embroidered details, and traditional joints.

What materials are used in Steiff products?

Only the finest materials are used for every Steiff Toy. The famous Steiff Schulte weaving mill in Duisburg produces mohair and alpaca using natural fibres, alongside high-quality woven synthetic plush. Steiff’s plush items are made using exceptionally soft yet durable outer materials to ensure both comfort and longevity. All fillings are brand new, hygienic, meeting the highest safety standards, posing no health risk.

Can the "Button in the Ear" be replaced if missing?

No, a Steiff “Button in Ear” cannot be replaced. It makes a punched hole, and a replacement wouldn’t meet the required strength and safety standards.
