85th Anniversary

Steiff BATMAN Limited Edition is made to celebrate his 85th Anniversary and is sure to be a special collectors piece for both Steiff and Batman fans/collectors. 1939 was the year that introduced Batman's first published appearance in Detective Comics.

He is 5-way jointed - which means you can move his legs, arms and head.
BATMAN is made from the finest black and warm grey mohair and represents the outfit of BATMAN from the 1966 live action series.

His black shiny eyes are lined with grey felt and his ears have a pointed shape, just like those found on BATMANS'S mask.

He has a black felt hand garnished nose and mouth together with foot and paw pads.

BATMAN logo is appliqued on the chest and BATMAN has a felt belt which is made of gold faux leather with laser engraving.

Finally BATMAN is wearing his shiny cape with serrated hem - so the BATMAN we all love and adore!

Batman is a superhero featured in American comic books by DC Comics. Created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27 on March 30, 1939. In the DC Universe, Batman is the alter ego of Bruce Wayne, a wealthy playboy, philanthropist, and industrialist living in Gotham City. After witnessing his parents' murder as a child, Bruce vows to fight crime, training his body and mind to become the masked vigilante known as Batman. He patrols Gotham at night, inspired by a bat motif. Batman's allies include sidekicks like Robin and Batgirl, and confidants such as Alfred Pennyworth and James Gordon. His enemies include the Penguin, the Riddler, Two-Face, and his greatest nemesis, the Joker.

Bob Kane came up with Batman in 1939 to build on the success of Superman, but it was Bill Finger who shaped Batman into the dark, complex character we know today. Batman received his own comic book series in 1940. Initially depicted as a brutal vigilante, Batman evolved into a hero with a strict moral code. Unlike most superheroes, Batman has no superpowers; he relies on his intelligence, physical prowess, and wealth. The 1960s Batman TV show introduced a campy, lighthearted version of the character, but later creators returned Batman to his darker origins, especially notable in Frank Miller's 1986 miniseries, The Dark Knight Returns.

Batman appears in numerous DC comic books, including those under the Vertigo and Black Label imprints. Detective Comics, where Batman debuted, is the longest-running comic book in the U.S. Batman often teams up with other superheroes like Superman and Wonder Woman as part of the Justice League. Various characters have also assumed the Batman mantle, including Jean-Paul Valley/Azrael, Dick Grayson (the original Robin), and Jace Fox. Alternate versions of Batman appear in stories like The Dark Knight Returns, Flashpoint, and various Elseworlds tales.

As one of the most iconic characters in popular culture, Batman is celebrated as one of the greatest comic book heroes. He is also a commercial powerhouse, with his image appearing in numerous products and media, including toys like Lego Batman and video games like the Batman: Arkham series. Batman has been portrayed in live-action TV and movies by actors such as Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, and Robert Pattinson. Additionally, many actors, most notably Kevin Conroy, have voiced Batman in animated series and video games.
