"Inspiration for 'Winnie the Pooh'"

Here is a chapter in the story of 'WINNIE THE POOH' with which you may not be familiar with. In 1914, a small bear was born in Ontario, Canada. She was purchased for $20 by Lt. Harry Colebourn of The Fort Garry Horse, a Canadian cavalry regiment headed to the Western Front during World War 1. Lt. Colebourn smuggled the bear into Great Britain as his regiment's unofficial mascot. Here, the regiment's veterinarian named her 'Winnipeg' after his hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Before the regiment left for the front lines, the future of this particularly gentle cub had to be decided, and so she was given to the care of London Zoo. It was at London Zoo where a certain young boy fell in love with her - CHRISTOPHER ROBIN, son to the English author A. A. Milne. Born from love and inspiration of 'Winnipeg' Christopher Robin named his own Teddy Bear 'Winnie'. Limited edition of just 1,500 pieces exclusive to UK/Ireland and USA. This bear has a special gold plated 'button in ear' embossed with an elephant to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the Steiff trademark.

Surface washable.

White label with famous Steiff gold plated button in the ear.
