If you are lucky enough to visit the famed Puppenhaus Museum in Basel, Switzerland there is a very special teddy bear you need to meet. He is simply known as 'specimen number 1766', but you will instantly see that a mere number does not adequately capture this teddy bear's shining personality. Manufactured in 1916 he is perhaps the epitome of Steiff Teddy bears from the period. Now Steiff have chosen to re-create this special Teddy bear as a world-wide limited edition. To make such a bear the original was sent to Steiff Schulte, their fabric mill in Duisburg, where artisans custom-made material as close to the Puppenhaus bear as possible. Then the designers measured every angle of the original to copy his proportions - from the tips of his ears to the bottom of his feet. They captured his long snout, humped back and spectacular face perfectly. Finally Steiff's airbrush artists added finishing touches around the eyes and paw pads to give the Teddy bear an antique appearance. Limited edition of 1,500 pieces worldwide.
