Here is a chapter in the story of Winnie the Pooh which you may not be familiar with. In 1914 a small bear was born in Ontario, Canda. She was bought for $20 by Lt. Harry Colebourne of The Fort Garry Horse, a Canadian cavalry regiment. During the First World War this regiment headed west and when Colebourne came to Great Britain he smuggled this bear with him as his regiment's unofficial mascot. Here the regiment's vet called her 'Winnipeg' after his hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Before the regiment left for the front lines they had to decide what to do with 'Winnipeg' and eventually they gave him to the care of London Zoo. And it was at London Zoo where a certain young boy fell in love with her - Christopher Robin, the son of the English author A.A. Milne. Christopher on one of his visits to the Zoo fell in love with 'Winnipeg' and decided to call his own bear 'Winnie' So here is Steiffs version of 'Winnipeg'. She is made from the finest black mohair with a light blond muzzle and a mouth and nose which have been hand embroidered in black. Fully jointed with two tone eyes and big ears. Limited edition of just 1,500 pieces worldwide.
