Steiff 175th Birthday of MARGARETE STEIFF - a special bear Steiff have designed and made to celebrate this date.
A perfect gift to add or give for our true Steiff collectors.
She is made from the finest mohair and is 5-way jointed which means her head, arms and legs are moveable.
MARGARETE was born in 1847 and at 18 months old she contracted polio and she was to spend her life in a wheelchair.
This remarkable woman became a skilled seamstress.
Little did she know she was laying the foundation stone for the Steiff international company of the future. She invented the soft toy when she made her first Elephant.
Here we have an elegant bear wearing a double tied bow with a factory logo cameo in a matching colour.
Just look at her face which has shiny black eyes, sweet hand embroidered mouth and nose together with gentle little ears.
Her paw pads are made from felt and on one is the signature of MARGARETE and on the other paw pad is the date of her birthday of 24.07.1847.
